Just how many needles can you find in one haystack?

or in my case - pin cushion!

I bought a new pin cushion this week. My old one was somewhere around 30 years old and was a little on the sad side. It had a hard time actually holding the pins and I kept loosing needles down inside. So, after transfering all my pins over, I decided to "open up" (oh the picture I wish I had taken!) my old pin cushion to see just how many needles I had lost over time.

Any guesses?
